LAHF Newsletter

London Arts in Health Forum (LAHF) is a London-based networking organisation for health and arts professionals and health-related organisations.

The LAHF Newsletter is the best way to hear about our upcoming events, and to keep up-to-date with the latest news regarding arts and health in the London area and beyond.

This is not a very frequent newsletter, so you can only expect to hear from us about one per month.

Art Therapy and the Arts

On April 8th LAHF is bringing together artists and art therapists working with a range of artforms from across the country to examine the ways in which professionals using art in healthcare settings can learn from each other.

Welcome to the February newsletter from London Arts in Health Forum. We are pleased to announce that LAHF has received news that it will continue to be funded by Arts Council England for the next three years. This is obviously very good news as it means we can continue to build up a network of those with an interest in arts in health and continue to distribute our monthly newsletter and co-ordinate our events. And continue to remain a free service to our members.

For the conclusion of its series of events looking at community healthcare and the arts, London Arts in Health Forum is bringing together doctors, architects and artists who have been involved in the development of innovative new community practices to discuss the issues that arise when the arts are used in this way.

Bromley by Bow Tour

On November 8th, LAHF is offering members an exclusive tour of the landmark Bromley by Bow Centre.

Now recognised as a model of how to integrate an arts programme into community healthcare practice, the Bromley by Bow Centre offers a diverse range of arts based activities as well as providing workshop space for artists.

The tour will include presentations from three of the artists currently working with the Centre and promises to be an exciting opportunity to see how the arts can be used to influence healthcare provision in community settings.

Arts in the Community

This autumn, LAHF has organised a series of events focusing on the impact the arts can have in strengthening the health of communities.

Three separate events in October and November will focus on the role of the arts in cultivating healthy lifestyles and in tackling health inequalities. These events will also examine the issues facing architects and designers looking to use the arts to help develop effective community healthcare facilities.

LAHF's most recent event was in July and featured an analysis of the groundbreaking Transplant project at Harefield Hospital . Artists John Wynne and Tim Wainwright offered a fascinating insight into how the project had developed over the course of the past year and provided an in depth analysis of the challenges and triumphs of this type of arts project on transplant wards.

LAHF has a series of events planned this autumn including tours, debates and seminars as well as a special event celebrating arts and mental health.
