In April the Mayor of London published the London Health Inequalities Strategy, setting out how the Greater London Authority (GLA) intends to tackle health inequalities in London and change the “stark and unacceptable differences in [Londoners’] wellbeing and longevity”.
The strategy outlines 5 main objectives: empowerment of individuals, better access to health services, reduction of income inequality, increased access to better wellbeing at work and making London a healthy place for all. 2012 has been set as the deadline to carry out the strategy’s ‘First Steps to Delivery’ which include general initiatives to meet these objectives and specific key health challenges such as obesity and mental health.
