South East Arts and Health have organised Arts and Health: The Way Forward, an event where speakers Lord Alan Howarth, Damian Hebron, LAHF and Sue Taylor, Department of Health will consider the current state of arts in health in England and how local and regional partnerships can help take it forward. The event will take place on 11th November in London and include morning and afternoon networking sessions. Places are £30, including refreshments and lunch.
Understanding Evaluation is a one day event organised by Arts and Health South West to explore evaluation, how it can improve standards, accountability and best practice in arts in health. Taking place on 30th September at the Gloucester Resource Centre in Gloucester the event costs £10 for members and £40 for AHSW members.

A painting in Hospitals celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and, as a celebration, is holding an exhibition of works from its extensive collection. With work from artists including Mary Fedden, Bridget Riley and Richard Long, the exhibition aims to highlight the importance of art in improving healthcare. Geese Theatre Company has been providing arts based activities within the Criminal Justice System since 1987 and this October is running a three-day course exploring the principles of their theatre work with offenders and young people at risk of offending. With a focus on addressing mental health and wellbeing issues, the course will take place in Birmingham from 14th - 16th October and costs £330.

This autumn, the Sidney De Haan Research Centre for Arts and Health will host a series of workshops and roundtable discussions at the University Centre, Folkestone. Bringing together leading UK practitioners and researchers, the five events will explore current perspectives and evidence on singing and health. On 10th October Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, in partnership with the Times Cheltenham Literature Festival, is holding Medicine Unboxed, a conference to explore the medical humanities. The conference will cover issues such as architecture and medicine, and poetry in exploring patients' experience, debated by leading UK speakers.
Taking place at Sanford Education Centre at Cheltenham General Hospital, the conference runs from 10am - 4pm with tickets costing £10.

A new production by Spare Tyre, a theatre company specialising in work with people with learning disabilities and with older people is presenting a new production, Feeble Minds at the Albany in Deptford and Rich Mix in Bethnal Green from 10th to 25th July. The devised theatre piece, created by artists from diverse backgrounds including people with learning and physical disabilities, dementia, autism and sensory impairments, explores issues of risk-taking and contemporary morality.

Arts and Health Australia is staging an international arts and health conference this November with a particular focus on health and ageing. The conference, in Port Macquarie New South Wales, Australia runs from 10th to 13th November 2009 and includes speakers from the UK, the USA, Europe and Australia. Up to 600 delegates are anticipated.
An exhibition currently running at St Pancras Hospital is showcasing ceramics, drawings, paintings and sculpture made by prisoners at HMP Pentonville. The two month long exhibition is the result of a joint partnership between Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust, NHS Camden and HM Prison Service who set up the HMP Pentonville Day Care Activity Centre.
The centre supports prisoners with mental health issues and complex health related needs through art, ceramics, creative therapy, drama and music.
